ford 6600 .. more questions ...

I have just bought this tractor which really runs great. There are many things wrong with it that I am trying to address.
Firstly, there is no wiring harness other than a wire from the alternator to the starter and wires from the starter to the ignition key. I am ordering the whole wiring harness and have a few questions.
Where is the water temp sensor?
There is a sensor in the intake that has 2 spade connectors and what looks like a hard line(tube) that has been cut and squeezed closed. Does it perhaps go to the engine block? as I see another coming out of the engine block that has been cut off.
Also, I managed to wipe off the paint covering my info tab, and am not sure if the hood has been changed or if this is a 5000, because the numbers are,
C350277
Model E1014C
2H18B
Rear axle 2F07B
2G10A cant tell what this is
Looking on the net, This tractor clearly looks like a 6600.

Thanks in advance for any and all help.

C350277 - 1972 serial number
Model E1014C - 5000 ag chassis with diesel engien, independent 540 rpm PTO and 8 speed transmission
2H18B - August 18, 1972 day shift (assembly date of tractor)
Rear axle 2F07B June 7, 1972 day shift (assembly date of rear axle)

Either it's a 5000 with 6600 decals or the hood has been swapped. Check the flat spot on the transmission bell housing to see if the stamped numbers there match the ones on the sticker under the hood.

The temperature sender is in the front of the head near the thermostat.

Look on the flat pad behind the starter for three rows of numbers, compare them to the sticker under the hood to see if the are the same.

All of the info you listed is consistent for a 72 model 5000 but it could be a 6600 with a 5000 hood.

6600 used alternator where 5000 has generator
6600 had cam drive tach, 5000 had generator drive tach
6600 after 76 had paper air filter, 5000 diesel had oil bath
6600 has oil fill on right side of timing cover, 5000 oil fill is on top of the valve cover.
6600 has a S shaped exhaust pipe bolted to the exhaust manifold with the muffler exiting near the front of the hood, 5000 as a short adapter coming out of the manifold straight up into the muffler which is near the rear of the hood.
6600 has a spin on hyd filter on the right side near the rear of the foot board, 5000 does not have this filter.
I would have to check but I believe 6600 has the engine dip stick on the right side, 5000 dip stick is on the left side of the engine.

Thanks for the info. I went out and scraped the ares and found these:
9A15B or 9A156
C5930G4 or C593004
LY254C or LY2546

It is real hard to tell. As per the above description, it must definitely be a 6600. I have the spin on Hyd. filter at the rear, dip stick on the left if sitting on the tractor. Oil fill on the right before the fan. Thanks again Y'all have been a great help. I just did not want to order parts that were not correct.

C593004 - should be a late 1978 serial number according to sources on the internet, but it is close enough to be an early 1979 serial number, and 9A15B would be a Unit Number (Production code) for January 15, 1979 day shift, so I am inclined to believe the Unit number and not believe the internet for the exact starting serial number for 1979.

LY254C would be the model number. I'm not sure 100% sure, as my references don't specifically list "LY2" as a model designator, but my references are a little lacking in that size range, but the L at the beginning should mean that it is something in the 5600 family, and the Y in the second spot in all of the other ranges where I can find it are all for the orchard chassis models, so I am pretty sure that "LY2" would be a 5600 orchard chassis model, or possibly 5700 if it has a flat deck instead of floorboards down on the sides of the tractor. So the model number should decode like this:

LY2 - 5600 (or 5700) Orchard Chassis Model
5 - diesel engine with horizontal exhaust.
4 - Independent 540 rpm PTO
C - 8 speed transmission.

Keep in mind that everything above is for the numbers you found stamped into the flat spot on the transmission bell housing so they only apply to the tractor that the transmission was in when it left the factory. The transmission could have been swapped at some point and the hood could have been swapped at some point as well, so check all of the things that destroked mentioned to see what most of the tractor is. You can also get the date codes off of the individual components like the engine, transmission, rear axle and hydraulic top cover to let the various components do a majority vote of what year the original tractor was assembled, and then go with whichever set of numbers (the sticker under the hood or the ones stamped into the flat spot) that agrees with the majority vote to say what the tractor was when it left the factory.

Thanks for all the info. Based on most of the criteria, I am sure it is a 6600. It has the rpm/hour drive behind the oil filter, hyd filter behind the right foot, oil filler behind the radiator on the right side, dip stick on the left. I just wanted to make sure that all the parts ordered were going to be correct. Thanks again.

Neither the model number under the hood nor the one stamped into the transmission says that it is a 6600. This items that you listed from Destroked's list all pertain to the 5600 as well as the 6600, so I would be more inclined to say it is a 5600 Orchard model than a 6600 given the stamped numbers, but as has been said, any number of parts could have been swapped out over the years, and that is your call since it is your tractor. The 5600 and 6600 models shared a lot of parts in common, but there were a few things that were different between them. The biggest difference with the orchard models from the others was the fenders usually had some sort of extra protection to keep the branches from getting tangled in the wheels and axles.

Sean, I have double posted, so in the other thread this was posted.

ea2 is a 6600/6700 series
ey2 is an orchard version of the 6600/6700
la2 is a 5600 series

cant find a ly2 series on my info.

You might recheck the model number again.

I scraped more and and the L is actually an E.

So it is a 6600 Orchard chassis model then. I have seen orchard models of earlier series tractors. I am interested in seeing the fenders on a 6600 Orchard model. Could you post some pictures?

I have tried posting pics with no luck. here is a link to it's twin

Sorry, that did not work.

Thanks for the picture. I guess that extra flap of metal hanging down at the top front of the fenders is what makes it an "orchard" model. Some of the really early orchard tractors had much more extravagant fender setups. I guess they figured out over the years that a little bit of protection from the branches did the most good and the cost vs. benefits of providing more protection wasn't worth it in the long run. Here is a picture of an early one one from a member here HCooke. The modification was an aftermarket kit:
