New NAA temp-gauge fitting leaks

Tried to install my new temperature gauge in my Jubilee tractor yesterday. Leaks like a garden hose. Part # 3007-0559 ref# C3NN 18287A . The new probe is not made like the old one. The old one has a tapered shoulder and the new one is flat. The retaining nut fits all the way in the head, but the probe is still loose. I have read about this problem all over the internet. Why do they keep selling this stuff from china that doesn't fit? Going to make a tapered bushing out of brass on my lathe today. Should not have to do this though. It should fit right out of the box. Ok, my ranting is over. Time to head to my shop and get to work.

Why do they...

money - the answer to such questions is always 'money' -

would it work to put an o-ring around the sending unit before putting it into the head? -
The part that screws in doesn't leak. It is the actual probe that lets water leak between it and the threaded fitting. It looks like the original probe has a tapered should on it and the new one is flat. It must be slightly smaller in diameter at that flat shoulder and doesn't seat in the head like the original. It will wiggle around even with threaded bushing screwed in tight. I might play around with some o-rings. I might try a 3/8" female npt to 3/8" male npt adapter. They are made with a slight shoulder inside. Why don't they just make it like the original. I am sure people would rather buy one that works. I may get upset and just go but an electric gauge and sender and be done with it.

Didn't the new gauge have some ferrules in the kit?

If you want, take the gauge to the hardware store in the plumbing
section. They have white nylon bushings for faucets that will work
just fine. My kit had three ferrules in it.
