71 Ford 2110LCG - transmission replacement

Guys,

I've got a '71 Ford 2110LCG tractor with an SOS transmission that gave up the ghost... The rest of the tractor isn't in too bad shape, so I'm considering buying a used 8-speed manual transmission for the tractor, but I'd like to know what types of additional challenges will I run into swapping an SOS for an 8-Speed vs just swapping the SOS for another SOS (I don't want another SOS if possible)?

Is the rear end for an SOS different than that of an 8-speed?
Do I need a different flywheel/clutch assembly?
Do I need to do anything with the hydraulic pump/tubing?

I bought a new tractor so this has now become a project tractor, so I'm open to suggestions on how to proceed.

Thanks,

Tim

If you go to a manual transmission you will need the transmission, flywheel and clutch. You will need the clutch pedal and linkage. I don't know if you will need different clutch/brake cross shaft. Check that.
Since ford used half a dozen different flywheels and clutch covers on non lpto tractors I would not try to piece it together but would insist on getting those 3 items as a set. Lpto trans, clutch, flywheel should all be the same - 2000, 3000, 2600, 3600 with exception of spline counts.
You will also need the pto shaft, pto handle and sliding coupler for the transmission type you use. I think all twin stick pto parts are the same wherher live or trans pto. But again, just to be sure I would try to buy them as a set.
I would also get the splined coupler that goes from the trans output to the pinion gear.
I'm pretty sure the output ratio on an SOS trans is higher than a crash box so you will have a slow tractor when you are done.
I parted out an early 3000 that sometime in it's life had had the SOS changed out to an 8 sp w/lpto. It still had the tracton disconnect lever on it and mount on the dash where the sos shifter had been. I made sure the guy who bought the trans got all of the above mentioned items as a set. Except he was going from a 4 sp to the 8 so he did not need the pedal and clutch/brake cross shaft.
As per my request he texted me a couple of weeks later and said it was all a straight up swap. Your hyd pump/lines will require no changes. Ring gear on flywheel will need to correspond to your fuel type. Otherwise no changes needed for gas vs diesel.

I've got your same model tractor with the 8-speed. If you need any external pictures of the tractor, let me know.

The ring and pinion for SOS is slower than for Manual trans.
When I changed my 4000 over the salvage yard sold me a complete conversion, flywheel, clutch, trans, pedals, rear center housing with gears.
Basically your bolting your engine, outer axle assm, lift top and tin plus front axle and steering onto another tractor.

If anyone decodes the models numbers on my 4000 all purpose it'll come up as a 4200 roll crop.
