Jubilee or 8N.

Got a friend looking at buying a
tractor. Likes our 640 ,he had
found a jubilee for $1500 or an 8
n for 1200. Both look good , which
one is better. I know , opinions.
Lol. Only has few acres and 3 mini
horses. Nothing huge. Thanks

No brainer, if both tractors are good negotiate his best price and buy them both. After a trial period decide which is a keeper and sell the other for a good profit!

Jubilee, no question. Two words: live hydraulics. The 20% boost in h.p. is nice, too. Flat-head vs. OHV is probably more of a personal preference... but I hear of far fewer blown head gaskets on the Red Tiger engines than the 2/8/9N's.

Jubilee....far superior because of the live hydraulics.
I own some 8N's in addition to the later ones and have to remember the clutch/shifter/lift dance...every time.
(try getting 3-point forks into a tight pallet while backing up with a N, and you will see why live hydraulics were invented.....)

but remember.....a NAA still wears the 8N style rearend...loose hubs, etc.
And if he ever will need remote hydraulics, the NAA better have the valve already...finding/buying the 53-54 only remote is tough and expensive.

If he likes your 640......I'd advise him to find a 600/601 or 800/801 instead.....

what ever he buys, tell him to get one with live pto,

he will thank you over and over in the future.

do not know if either of these have that
may have to go with a 641 or 841 to get that option.
well worth the extra cost and it is such a safety feature.
in my humble opinion,

in my humble opinion,

Live PTO was not available on the 8N or NAA. It was also not on the 641 or 841. It was only available in the hundred and '01 series on the models that had a 6 in the middle digit like the 660, 661, 860 and 861, plus the similar row crop models.

I would pick the Jubilee over the 8N any day of the week if it's a sound tractor with good rubber, two years ago I went to Pensacola FL and picked up a Jubilee with front mounted hydraulic blade for $800, had to put all the sheet metal back together and I repainted the tractor and put new upright exhaust on it along with pertronix ignition then flipped it for $3000, one of my neighbors bought it and brags on it all the time, probably should have kept that one but a profit is nice

IMO wife's should never be bought into the equation of a tractor purchase unless you are on the fence and looking for reasons not to buy it.

This one is in ga , couple hours
from me ( I will be hauling it for
em if they buy). Guy says PTO
shaft is leaking and it needs
brake seals. PTO seal easy I've
done that. Not sure about brakes.
Didn't know old fords had brakes.
Lol.

Well said Kirk, keep the wife out of your tractor negotiations or any other toy you desire, they don't include us on new shoes, jewelry, purses, clothes, etc when I mention to Lisa that I notice she has on something new she says well "I've always had this", well you know two can play that game.

To each his own and everyone has an opinion, but I wouldn't trade my 1952 8n with Hi-Lo sherman for 2 Jubilee's. I have restored 2 Jubilees for others and I just do not like a Jubilee. If you want a nice older tractor, find yourself one of these.5 speed -live hydraulics and 2 stage clutch.

I guess my wife isn't like most. She encourages me to get more tractors. Her brother always says that you need the correct tools for the job and she follows his recommendation, so any time we have a project that we don't have the best tools for, she tells me to go out and buy them.

For our Carpentry work that's the
way my wife is, if I need it to
make work easier then go buy it.
But with 4 tractors and 3
acres...... Lol.

Wow, what a catch, she sounds like every tractor guy's dream girl,

Does your wife have an unmarried sister?

Hahaha! I'd say that too... but I'd like to stay happily married. :)
My wife doesn't like it when I buy tractors... but she's happy when I'm able to get one fixed, sold, and turn a decent profit on it.

We are up in TN at crossroads of
dixie show. Wow!! Worth the
drive. Tractor pull this evening.
Will post a few pictures tomorrow
bunch of tractors for sale too
.... ...... Time to shop!!

Equating carpentry tools to tractors my wife would say do you really need thirty hammers?
