Ford 4000 3 Point Issues

After owing a 63 Ford 4000 for about a year I am now just starting to need to use the 3 point hitch and am running into issues. I mounted a post hole auger on it yesterday and the hitch will raise it all the way up or lower it all the way to the ground but I have nothing in-between. If I raise it all the way up and then lower the lever half way nothing happens. If I keep moving it to almost all the way down it will drop down rapidly. If I go to raise it back up part way it will start to lift but will just jerk and jump unless I come all the way up.

I already confirmed that the draft control lever is in the right position. I even tried it the other way just to make sure. The lift has plenty of power, just nothing but up and down. I checked the fluid at the dipstick and it is full but a little milky. A fluid change is in order but I don't think that is what is causing it. Anything else to check?

It's time to R & R the lift cover, replace the cam follower pin, and readjust the draft and position control adjustments.

Of course, you will want to replace the lift cylinder O ring and thoroughly clean the hydraulic sump and replace the oil while the lift cover if off.

I had a post hole digger do the same thing. Mine has a movable lift arm bracket. When I re-pinned it in a different hole it totally acted normal. I found out that it was putting too much pressure on the big spring in the back and that was causing the controls to react way out of wack.
