Ford 641 12 volt conversion question

Good morning, new to the site, thanks in advance for the help!

I am converting my 641 to 12 volt as the generator has shot craps. The kit they sell on this site says it does not contain the coil as the starting system remains 6 volts. Can someone please explain how this works that the charging system is 12 but the ignition is 6 volts

The kit contains a resistor that you put between the charging/tractor system and the ignition system.
This resistor knocks the 12 volt system down to 6 volts.
