When you polarize a charging system that uses a generator, you polarize the generator, not the regulator. That said, it can be done at the
regulator if you flash the field wire, and not the terminal on the regulator.

Try flashing the generator "F" terminal with a battery that has at least 12 volts. No flash = open field which means it won't charge.

I would not leave a charger on high unattended.

I had a bad battery explode on me last winter while trickle charging.

If it was me, I would have the battery load tested first,

When chargers react this way you may have a bad battery,

Do not let it get hot or blow up,

(quoted from post at 20:10:53 09/03/17) I agree, think that battery is one step from spraying acid all over.

This is strange, somehow your replies got outside of my original post? I had logged back in to add about the why the battery charger was doing and I saw this as a different Thread. I thought "that guy is having the same problem as me" then read this closer and it seems you all were replying to my questions.

I am thinking the battery is / was good since it was new as of last September. It started having the not cranking about 6 months ago so I figured it must be something else. We have had rain all summer and I just got to working on this.

After realizing this was response to my post I went out and unplugged the battery charger from the wall and disconnect from the battery.
So it will not be charging unattended tonight. but when I connect it back in the morning, I will be outside but not right there watching it. I if there is a chance of the battery exploding I sure don't want to be right there.
I thought maybe it was normal for the charger to Stop Charging and then start back

I hope the Moderator can get this post put back together...

What you hear is a circuit breaker it is normal when the amperage output is more the charger is designed for.

That's probably not going to happen. The problem is that a lot of folks still use "Classic view" and you revived a thread that was started back in June, and so folks who use Classic View probably won't see that something new was posted to that thread, so some folks who use Modern View start a new thread when they reply so that the folks that use Classic View will see it.

It's best to start a new thread to continue discussing something that's been dormant for more than a couple of weeks. You can always refer to the original thread and provide a link to it if you don't feel like reiterating a long description of the original problem.
