I noticed when I start my 800 I'm getting water droplets from the exhaust stack and putting black crud on the hood.It clears up in under a minute but I pulled the head anyway.I saw nothing obvious with the gasket, head or block and didn't have any rust streaking from water water jackets.Could there be a crack inside maybe around one of the valves????

Bet you wasted a bunch of $$ doing that. Most any engine will do that for a few minutes till warmed up and if it has been humid where your at it will do it a whole lot more. As long as there is no coolant in the oil and the radiator does not loose a lot of coolant I bet your problem is in your head as in between your ears

Water is a product of combustion a showcrop said, and it is also a product of condensation as old said. Look at the tail pipe of your car on a humid morning when it has been cool the night before and you will see water dripping from the exhaust. It is normal until things heat up enough so that the water is all vapor when it l;eaves the exhaust.

The black crud is just the water mixed with the carbon deposits lining the exhaust system, which are also normal. The harder you work that diesel engine the less deposits you will have in the exhaust so the less black crud you will have dripping on the hood.

My Fords with the horizontal muffler under the hood and the tailpipe going vertical, will do that often when weather conditions are right.

One other thing to check...it might not be water......
One of my Naa's started to spit at me when starting/re-starting.
(usual tests and trouble-shooting for anti-freeze...."There is nothing wrong here")
Turned out to be a failing needle in the carb, letting a little gas pool in the throat. Good tractor, good ignition, it shrugged it off and started anyway.....and spit it out the vertical exhaust.

yea, had it torn down already thought now is the time to do it.Now where can I get a good quality gasket,New Holland better than others? anyway feel a little better now, thanks for all the input
