Ford 3000 gas burner runs/quits

I have a 3000 Ford, gas burner, seems to run good once started, then starts sputtering, losing power, then quits. Carb has been cleaned, has gas in the carb, new plugs. Anyone know what might be causing this? Thanks

Have you checked for a good spark when the problem is occurring? Could be the coil is starting to go bad. They usually exhibit the first symptoms only after being warmed up, and then they gradually get worse until they don't produce a good spark even when stone cold.

No I haven't checked for spark, but that could possibly be it since it will not crank with starting fluid(very little btw). Thank you very much.

I had a 4000 gas that did had the same symptoms that you describe. It ended up that the fuel line was getting too hot. I wrapped it in foil and ensured that I had a free flow and it ran great since,

Derek,

Is yours a 4 cylinder 4000? If so, it is a completely different beast than a 3000 or any of the 3 cylinder models. Yours has a gravity flow system with the exhaust manifold on the same side of the engine as the intake manifold and carburetor, so the fuel line passes close to the exhaust manifold and can get heated up. A 3 cylinder 3000 has the exhaust manifold on the opposite side of the engine than the intake manifold and carb so the fuel line never goes near the exhaust, plus it has a mechanical fuel pump that provides more flow to the carb than a gravity fed system.

I am pretty positive I am getting good gas flow. Last night I took the Rotor button out, cleaned it good with polishing cloth, made sure my wires were tight. It ran good, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed it works good in the field this afternoon if the rain holds off.
Thanks

Yes, it was a 4 cylinder. If the carb has a screw at the bottom, I would loosen it to ensure a good flow through the carb. If your coil and contacts check out, then it has to be fuel. See how long it takes after you stall to re-start. It sounds like you are good to go when the bowl is full and then it cant keep up.
