Slip clutch is nice but not required. The shear pin on the cutter on my 960 functions well and rarely shears. I don't cut grass either, mostly Palmetto, pine and oak saplings.

person at TSC told me the slip clutch should be used in conjunction with the over ride clutch, that can't be right can it?

An over running clutch is not needed with your 960. A regular slip clutch would be a good idea. It can save things like PTO shafts from getting broken.

i thought a over run clutch is for the n series correct? because of not having live pto?
thanks

An over run clutch is needed for any model that has transmission driven (non-live) PTO. That includes the 9N/2N/8N, NAA, all of the models in the hundred series that do not have a 6 as the middle digit in the model number, any model in the '01 series that does not have a 6, 7 or 8 in the middle digit, any 4 cylinder 2000 or 40000 series model that has a 4 speed transmission, and any 3 cylinder thousand series that has a 4 speed transmission, and some 3 cylinder 2000 & 3000 series models that have the 6 speed, as those could have either live or non-live, and possibly some 3 cylinder 2000 & 3000 models with an 8 speed transmission, but I'm not 100% sure if any of those were made with non-live PTO.

960 has live PTO, dual stage clutch one for motion and one for PTO. No over running coupler is needed, the slip clutch protects the implement as does a shear pin.
