63 Ford 4000 Industrial Backhoe application

A guy somewhat local to me (100 miles) has a "Ford Backhoe" for sale for $650..been sitting 8 years and has the head and radiator off, so engine is probably trash...but for the price, I'm interested in the backhoe attachment.

Guy sent me a pic of the label plate on the hoe and it is a 19-389 model, Serial R 115821.

I'm trying to figure out if that will mate up to my 63 4000 Industrial model? Seems the 4000 Industrial is not a very well documented tractor in the Ford/CNH sytems.

It's probably worth the $650 in parts, but I don't need any more junk laying around the farm. lol

Here are a couple pics.
He sent me some shots of the transmission part number, but not the main tractor serial
number so i can verify model.
Communication is weak wuth this guy. Lol

The 753 backhoe was made to fit the 1965+ 3 cylinder 4000 series and was usually sold installed onto a 4400 or 4500 model tractor. The backhoe sub-frame was also the frame for the loader, so if you already have a loader on yours you would be best to replace it with the loader that is attached to that backhoe sub-frame. I am pretty sure that the sub-frame won't bolt right up to your 4 cylinder 4000, and I'm not sure if it is even possible to get it to fit by fabricating custom brackets. Hopefully someone else with some experience in trying to get the two to work together will be along shortly and give you a definitive answer on that.

Mine does indeed have a loader on it.
Sounds like this probably won't be a bolt on addition for my application which is a shame since the price wasn't bad.

I've asked for pics of the grill and front axle.
Also asked him for a pic of the serial number for the entire unit. That should make it a lot easier to identify just what it is.

Some did some didn't, I have parts from
a Ford 4400 that had the traditional
loader like an ag tractor then a
seperate backhoe subframe, which I would
sell if someone needs it

The 753 backhoe has solid mounting pins.

This is how it mounts on the back, it has two saddles for the bottom pins to sit in, and two upper arms that clamp down over the top pins. The frame bolts under the rear axle, and the frame runs to the front, and bolts up the front axle support. It's the best way to mount it so you don't put all that force, and weight (that backhoe is pretty heavy) on the transmission case, and engine block.

To give you a idea of how heavy it is, I wouldn't be surprised if its a good 3000 lbs by itself.

For what he want for the whole thing the price isn't bad. You could probably make those brackets work with some cutting, and welding. You could buy it, get it running, and fix just what it needs if the engine, and transmission don't need major work.

Thanks for the info!
The guy never did get back to me with further pics. Guessing he probably sold it locally and just never bothered to message back.
Based on your pics, I don't think it would work on my 4000 industrial anyway without a lot of fabrication. And his has had the head off the engine for who knows how many years, so I assume it is junk. Oh well. Will just have to keep my eyes open for something.

Here's a couple pics of mine. Serial numbers behind the starter are beyond pitted/corroded, so I couldn't even verify that mine is truly a 4k industrial. Didn't think to take some pics from the back the other night when I was out at the farm.
It needs some TLC, but it meets my needs around the farm for the most part and I got it for a decent price last year.

With that grill and nose cone it's either the light industrial or the ag chassis 4000. The heavy industrial would have the heavy cast nose cone/grill like the 1801 series with the headlight holes in it.

Thanks for the info on mine. I suspected it wasn't the heavy industrial but with serial unreadable and my limited knowledge of the whole goods.. (parts... I know parts...I work for CNH at the reman plant and see parts for these older machines all the time). The price was right for it when I bought it though, so no complaints.

Guy finally messaged me back but didn't have additional pics.
His is a 72 Ford 3000 Industrial, Diesel (but has had head off for a while)....he's lowered price to $450 till the weekend.. if he doesn't sell he's takin it to the scrap yard. He's located in northeast OK if anyone else is interested. I'm going to pass on it since I don't have time for another project and the backhoe won't work on mine anyway.

Forgot to mention on my previous post: I also suspected mine wasn't the heavy industrial because on the back half where some of the yellow paint is wearing off, there is blue paint underneath. So I'm guessing I have an ag 4000 with a very heavy bucket on it?

I looked closer at your picture and it appears to be the light industrial model. At least it has the front axle from a light industrial. The regular ag chassis model has a 3 piece front axle that can be taken apart and put back together in different configuration to get different widths on the front wheel spacing. Yours has the solid front axle from what I can see of it in your picture, so it should be a light industrial..
