went looked at a ford 4000 selectomatic yesterday. wanted the power steering from it. guy is parting/or selling it out close to me. he couldn't keep it running very long. checked power steering fluid level. it was empty. added some to it. finally got it running enough to check. seemed to be working except oil leaking out the ram. did-appointed to say the least. noticed the left rea tire didn't have the spin out rims. the right did. don't know which these came out with. my 960 has spin outs on it. it was a row crop 172 motor. very nice fellow. he has no idea whats wrong with the transmission but from what he told me I think the fellow in iowa he bought it from does and from what I have read its definetly best or me to stay away from it. he is asking 2000 for it but he will take less. not sure what its worth but I suspect a lot less than that. what do you all think. I am looking for a carb for a 960 ford 172 motor if anyone has one here in Missouri.

If the steering was dry, the SOS could have an easy to solve problem also. Another thing, the rims are not spin-out, they are "Power Adjust".

What shape are the tires in? If the engine runs and it has decent tires then it's worth at least $1200.00 to $1500.00 just for those.

If the transmission wasn't working when the current owner bought it and he was able to tow it or roll it to where it is now then the traction disconnect is probably in the disconnected position. That's not to say that there might not be something wrong with the transmission, but the tractor wouldn't roll at all when not running unless the traction disconnect was disconnected or something in the rear axle was busted.
