holley vs zenith ford 3000

On this site I have seen disparaging remarks on the holley carb on ford 3000 vs the zenith, I tend to agree. My question is the zenith a direct replacement or do I have to modify the plumbing etc?

I have installed 4 of the Zeniths. They are a direct swap for the Holley - no mods or messing with fuel lines, linkages, bolt pattern, air tube - nothing.

U-dog, what years of engines did you do these swap outs? Were any of these '65-early '68's? Reason I'm asking is because when I did the swap on our '65 some years ago, the research I did then showed slightly different stock numbers for the Zenith replacement early carbs. I also noticed that the early engines had different governor parts, including linkages. That led me to think that the carb is prob the same but the linkage bell cranks might be different.

I ordered the "correct" Zenith for our '65 and it did indeed bolt right up, hasn't been off the tractor since then.

For the OP, Ultra & I are in the same camp...let the Holley swim with the fishes.

If they could fix'em they would not need a replacement... Its more of a grunge again something that defeated them... Its not the carbs fraught... Its not that I am dat smart its because its close to what i have been use to working on verses whats normally found on a tractor...

When you are done with that Holley I would like to have it I will pay ship'N and be haunted with it the rest of my life... I have fixed everyone I have had my hands on the first time, the only one that has ate my lunch is on my own tractor and that's because I was to cheap to buy a new float.... I have a new'N setting on my shelf tho just encase my patch job fails for the fourth time... :)

KNOW I am not look'N to fix yours unless the tractor comes with it...

I have one on my 66 4200 and put one on an early 65-66? 3000. That was my original 3000. Both of those would have the two lever governor.
The other two were Ken's 70s 2/3000 so one lever gov. Not sure when they changed them.
Sean?
The different bell crank you mention was on the intake manifold, back by #3 cyl. They are different on early/late governors. When it gets to the carb the linkage all work the same.
As to the Holleys,
If you have the inclination to cram a bunch of carb knowledge and lore and mess with a Holley that's ok with me. If the vacuum piston isn't worn out which pot metal against pot metal tends to do after 50 years you might fix one to run ok. But I won't likely do that. Would rather do something else. The Zeniths made the tractors run good, idle and full power, never stumble and they werent cold blooded to warm up - right out of the box.
Yeah, with the fishes. Or Jimmy Hoffa - gotten rid of...
