Hydraulic oil AW46 vs NH G134

I bought 5 gallons of AW 46 hydraclic oil at advanced auto it is about 20 dollars cheaper than New Holland Ambra G134 oil. I am wondering if it would be suitable for use in a Ford 4610, 5000 etc.
Thanks

Absolutely not for wet brakes, transmissions or final drives. Not at all suitable for your Fords except possibly the power steering systems.

Take the 20 dollars cheaper and divide it into 2000 dollars that fixing your tractor might cost you. Now, is it worth is to penny pinch the 20 dollar savings? Tom

Generally, no....
There are some older tractors that have isolated hydraulic systems and in those you could use AW46, but you would not use AW46 in any Ford tractorbuilt after 1965 model year.
They require 134D or an equivelant oil as spelled out on the product sheet.
Some examples include Walmart's TDH, Canadian Tire's TDH, Esso Hydraul 56, various other tractor manufacturer's oils including Kubota UDT, Deere HyGuard, Massey PermaTran and probably a few more excepting the older IH HyTran spec.
There would also be various other major oil manufacturer's oil's that would meet the spec. The only one I would suggest you stay away from is Ultramar's Ultratrac fluid. It's a brake destroyer....

Universal tractor oil's like 134D meet a GL-4 gear lube spec that includes friction modifiers for wet brake performance and wet clutch performance. AW46 is a simple mid weight Anti Wear hydraulic oil. It's not suitable for the hydraulic systems in any modern farm tractor excepting isolated systems like the steering on some models as Rick noted...

the stuff you bought is plain hyd oil.. like for a self contained hyd sump.. or a floor jack.

as rick said.. it is NOT a Universal tractor fluid... neither is the aw32/46 or ISO 32/46.. etc.

if you need to save cash.. hit a tsc or walmart.. their utf oil is made by warren.. it's generic, and about 35-50$ a pail and meets the M2C134 spec.

Would AW46 hydro oil be good for a naa golden jubilee?

Nothing like resurrecting an 8 year old thread... The AW46 would be OK for the hydraulic sump only in an NAA, which is separate from the transmission and rear axle. Unfortunately, the seals between the three sumps are prone to leak on those old tractors, so you may get cross contamination between them, and in that case it is best to go with a fluid that meets the 134D specification in all 3.
