will the power steering unit for a 4000 ford fit on a 960 ford. any mods or will it all be the same. thanks norm

I cannot be 100% sure but I think if it is a early 4000 with the 4 cylinder is is likely to fit

IT seems the 960s power steering rams aren't very good. is the 4000 ram the same or are they an upgrade cylinder. thanks

Well since I have not seen either one I cannot say. If both either had a wide or narrow front I would think they would work. I.E. they would have to have the same type front end

Does your 960 have two rams???

only have one ram. it leaks oil out the ram. talked to a fellow who has one from a 4000. just it know if it was the same or ford maybe had changed the way it was built and maybe was better than the one on a 960. thanks norm

I have a 960 and a two 961s. The whole steering assy. is identical between them and the 4 cyl. 4000 row crops. UNLESS a leaking cylinder is repaired with a replacement rod of a different size as I had done with one of mine. The one on the 4000 leaks also, just not very bad. The chrome on them gets worn off at the midpoint on the underside. after awhile they get pitted and ruin the seal. I fixed one by cleaning the rust off, including down in the pits with rust converter, then filling with JB weld, and smoothing it very well. It has been good for five years. To really do a good job you have to get the cyl cut open, a new rod and seal put in, then welded back together. expensive.

Rich,

Wide or narrow front would make no difference. I switch mine back and forth as needed. 4000 Row crop and 961 should be the same steering wise.
