1968 Ford 2000 Holley Carb

Hello!

I have a 1968 Ford 2000 with the Holley Carb. I have the tractor ready to run but the carb is really gunked up. I have got it all apart and have sourced a float and rebuild kit.

This carb has a small spring on the float arm that is shot. CNH wants 40$ for a spring.

Any one have a spring or a Holley C5NN9510L?

Should I just put the Zenith on this thing?

I'm a believer in the Holley carb because they work well and are economical when functioning properly.

That said, if yours is badly corroded you may be better off replacing it because properly rebuilding it may be expensive if not impossible.

The replacement Zenith carb is readily available, of course but you might want to consider a used Holley as they can be found for little or nothing (with patience) as many replace theirs with a Zenith. If you find one, you can keep yours for spare parts.

Mine had not run for 5+ years and was
way beyond rebuild, replaced it with
one from this site, excellent choice
as it fit and ran perfectly.

Do you still have the holley?

no, many years ago and I mailed it to sotxbill who posts on this site. he may be able to help you as he regularly posts concerning these carbs.

There are many different kinds of Spring loaded needle..... for Hollys out there you might try. Here's one for 12 bucks and change.

There is a spring on the float rod that holds pressure on the float against the needle. That's the 40$ spring.

Do you have a Holley for parts still?

Bingo.

The spring helps to prevent the pivot pin from wearing the pin holes in the die cast float bowl egg-shaped due to the heavy vibration of the three cylinder engine.

If the holes in your carburetor are worn egg-shaped, it will not be possible to properly set the float level and you may want to replace your carburetor. The Holley carburetor is sensitive to float adjustment.

The carb was really varnished up. I have it nice and clean now. The check valve is even working properly. Since the varnish really stuck the float pin I had to really work to get the pin out. In doing this the spring was destroyed. The holes are nice and round and the pin is in good shape. I just need a replacement spring. HELP!

Does it look like this one? Lots of them out there for 1.95 to 15 bucks... Just got to find the correct one.

No, unfortunately it is nothing like that. Almost like a tiny hinge spring. It is part 22A on the photo I posted.

Hopeing someone has a spare I can purchase.

Thanks!

I found this float spring on amazon for 4$ if it works great if not I will run without. I'm not paying 40$ for a spring.

I always recommend that one bite the bullet and buy a CNH kit. It will be EXPENSIVE, but if you take carburetor and tractor serial numbers with you when you order it, it will have the correct parts and gaskets to fit your carb. I do not recommend aftermarket kits for Holley carbs.

What is the specified float height? Do I measure from gasket surface or aluminum surface.

My ball check valve was completely blocked.

This is how to fix it!

Soak VALVE in carb cleaner.
Light small propane torch.
Gently hold check valve under torch until light glow.
Rinse and repeat.

This method burnt all the flammable gunk right out. It works flawlessly now. YMMV
