Thinking of buying a another ford

Been looking for a newer tractor. I liked my 641 when I was using it, just wasnt diesel. Ended up buying a 430 case diesel- love it to death, but its wearing out and I think I should get rid of it before it dies.

Found a 2810 for sale. Not to horrible of shape, needs work like any other tractor of course. Whats everyone opinion of the 2810?

Id like to find something bigger. Like a 4610 or something similar. I realistically need more power, but this one can had for a decent price.

If you need more power buy more power. Don't strangle yourself just because you saved a couple of bucks. The money will be gone
forever. What won't be gone and will haunt you every time you use your "bargain" is how pukey it is and how it doesn't do what you need
done. Nag nag, every time you use it, boy I wish I would have......... Buy what you want and need!!!!!

My 641 should have more power then the 2810. It has a big bore kit, 8:5:1 compression, ported head and a custom camshaft.
Im kinda thinking of just buying it till I find something bigger. I really havent seen much for bigger tractors lately. They are farm tractors by then, not the utility type.

The 2810 was the successor to the 2000. Power would be about the same as what you have but I'd still give the edge tot he 3 cylinder diesel
personally...
The biggest gain would be the 8 speed, possibly a syncro. Otherwise they're much the same tractor.

Rod

In addition to what Rod has said, the 2810 weighs over 1,000 lbs. more than a 641 and the 3 point hydraulics has more than double the lifting power as well. So it depends on where you need more power. If it is just PTO power, then they are about the same, but if you need to lift heavier implements the 2810 wins hands down. The heavier weight of the 2810 means that you can apply more of that drawbar HP to the ground without having to add as much additional ballast as well.

You give your 641 too much credit and not enough to the diesel in the 2810. Hp might be similar, but the torque of the diesel will be a large
improvement.

My 641 was quite the go getter after it lost the head gasket and re did the head. Thats when it got the first round of mods. Milled .090 off it, good valve job and ported it.

It did way better on fuel and gained lots of tq.

I think the guy sold the 2810 today. Isnt returning my calls.
Guess Im looking for something bigger, or fix the case 630d

Yep, and a much better choice of gears in the working speed range. I've done some jobs with 850's, 860's, and 3000 diesels... the 3000's give up several h.p. to the 800's, but between the torque and better gearing, the 3000's could out-work the 800's. And if you step up to a 201-powered model, you'll wonder why you didn't sooner.
