4610 SU warning lights

Hi all,

The instrument warning lights on my 4610 SU come on intermittently and randomly. It started with the air intake light. That light started coming on, and flickering on and off even when the filters were clean(new). Then one day the oil light started doing the same thing. The oil was full, and I've run it a lot with that light going on and off, and the engine hasn't started knocking, or seized. My decision to keep running it was based on the randomness of the light. It could be sitting there idling and the light would come on, then a few seconds later go back out. Revving it made no difference . Then the battery light started joining in. We tightened the fan belt a little, and I don't think I've seen that on since. Does anyone out there have any ideas as to what could cause those lights to come on and off when the thing they are supposed to warn you about is not a problem? I took the instrument panel off and found a mouse nest in there and two bare wires. After cleaning the nest out and taping up the bare wires, I was hoping that would be my cure. Nothing seems to have changed.

I sure would appreciate the help as I am completely at a loss. I don't have a clue how the sensors work, but it seems odd that the sensors would all fail at once.

Thanks,

Definitely sounds like wires are shorting. Maybe the wiring harness is rubbing against metal somewhere and the insulation is worn through on the wires for those warning lights, and the vibrations of the tractor running are causing them to intermittently short to ground. Or there are other wires that got chewed by the mice that you haven't found yet.

Rodent damage to the harness above the fuel tank or the harness is chafing against the front fuel tank seam. Check it out before your tractor
tries to burn up.

Agree with Rick. Check the harness again. If not check both the manifold and oil pressure sensors for closed contacts. However, a short is more likely.

If the oil pressure and air cleaner light flicker at the same time, check for a shorted wire at or near the oil pressure sender. It is normal for the air cleaner light to come on when the oil pressure light does.

If there is no further evidence of rodent damage, check all of the connections at the dash for looseness.

Thanks a bunch everyone. It seems there is a consensus of opinions, and it appears that I have my work cut out for me. I haven't yet figured out how to see area above the fuel tank. Can't be too complicated. I'll have a look tomorrow. Thanks again.
