Ford 4000SU fan hitting shroud at low RPMS?

I think that's what's happening. Noticed an occasional "Ping!" this winter when idling at 700-800 RPMs, but it would quit above 1000 RPMs or so.
Now it's happening occasionally even around 1200 RPMS, and at idle speeds it happens at least once per second.

I rebuilt the whole front end about five years ago, including new bushings and a new axle pin, and the tractor hasn't been beaten on since then. So I
don't expect that to be the issue, but there is a loader on the tractor so I guess anything is possible.

I can feel some play in the fan, which I think is play in the water pump shaft. So I'm thinking my next move is to remove the loader and get a better
look at things before replacing the water pump.

This forum has always been amazingly helpful when things aren't working 100%, so I figured I'd post before tearing into anything. Thanks in
advance for any suggestions!

I agree with the others. If you can feel play at the fan, replace the water pump before it gets more expensive.

Thanks everyone! I'll pull it apart today and order the new front half of the pump assuming everything else looks good.

Have a great 4th!
Greg
