Lift lever friction disk

Is there something I can use as a substitute for a hydraulic lift lever friction disk on a Ford 641? I have one ordered, but I need to do some work, and the lift won't stay up. I'm sure something would work until the new one shows up. I just can't think of what to use.

Try cutting a piece of fine grain sandpaper to fit. might need to glue two pieces back-to-back. It will be more abrasive on the metal parts, but it should do in a pinch until the replacement friction disk comes in.

Heck just about anything would work temporarily. I would probably use a piece of heavy cardboard like is what on the back of a writing tablet.

Thanks for all the replies guys. Unfortunately, I broke the friction plate while removing it. I guess it had never been removed (or at least not for a good many years). It still works, but half of it is broke off, and the lift handle is now rubbing the guard. It's far enough off that I can now easily remove it when the replacement I ordered comes (I had to order a replacement friction plate as well as the disk). The friction from the handle rubbing the guard holds it in place right now, so I can still use it.
