Any 1700 Ford owners out there ?

Just traded an old Suzuki Samurai for this 1700 Ford, it runs real good, don't know much about the Japanese motor in it, any comments about these little tractors?
If I decide to keep it I'm gonna have to find some smaller implements for it.

I do not own one but I do get called once in a while to work on one. I am guessing it is a diesel and if it is just make sure you keep the sediment bowl filter good and clean.

Yep, it is a diesel, with what I traded off to get it I think I came out pretty good, had $1700 altogether in what I traded for it..

I have a 1710 with a 770 loader, I am not sure what the difference is between the two maybe someone will chime in and let us know. Mine is four wheel drive and it has a shuttle shift and 12 speeds forward and 2 reverse,I see yours has 2 shift levers off the trans where mine has one for hi and lo I use it for snow removal with a 7' back blade and it runs a 4" wood chipper with it no problem. It is a great little tractor but I have heard parts a scarce, although I haven't had any need yet. People will growl at me but I carefully ran an 8' Ford Flail mower with it, I took it easy and mowed often so it didn't get two high.

I have a 1980 1500,one size smaller than yours. 4WD. They are tough as a pine knot, but parts are very expensive and scarce as hens teeth. Mine has set outside most of its life and has mowed all summer and pushed snow in the winter for years and I have spent very little on it. They have a Shibaura engine. Ford and New Holland both used them in tractors and skid steers.

I have a 78 1700 diesel. Runs like a top - had it for 3 years now. I will confirm parts are very expensive. Shortly after I brought it home I had to replace the head gasket even though the PO had said he had replaced it about a year prior. I never knew a head gasket (OEM) could cost $120!!!! I think the issue was the PO did not machine the head and used a cheap gasket. Since then I've swapped out the headlights as I had a burned out bulb and found one online for a mere $90!!! It now has sealed halogens that cost $8. So in the end they are a great tractor, surprising amount of power for a little compact, but you will roll the dice on parts should anything ever go wrong.

Dang it, I may unload this tractor
before it needs to be worked on down the
road, some of ya'll are shaking me up
about it, it does run really good, no
smoke or blow by. But don't need
anything that's hard to get parts for or
parts that are extremely expensive if
you can find them

I paid $1000.00 + $135.00 freight for a 4 cyl naked block Shibura for a NH Skid Steer loader last week and was darn lucky to find one for that . I have been looking for 4 months.

Have a 2110 manual shift(woods belly mower) and LGT14D hydroshift both by Shibaura. the Japanese quality, design and workmanship are awesome, IMO.

I love them. The 2110 I have had for 4 years, had not really needed anything but filters. the GT14D I just picked up a few month go.and in the process of restoring.

If they do have problems, I'll pay the price.

Great little tractors.

It would depend on what you paid for it. If not that much use it until a gets a big problem and then part it out for what you paid for it.

I bought a 1710 Ford with a 770 loader about two months ago as an upgrade from my 1952 8N. It runs well and with 4 range, 3 speed gearbox and 4 wd it will do anything I need. Have not had to look for parts yet. Very well pleased with my purchase.

I be that the seller was glad to see it go. You keep hearing horror stories about parts for anything earlier than the XX10s
