I have a Ford 6600 with alot of issues.
First off,the 3pt raises but is slow and
jerky. The hydraulic remotes barely work.
And slow and jerky. The PTO spins slowly and
when I engage it nothing changes. The PTO
spins even when the lever is in the off
position. How should I go about fixing this
old gal so I can use it on my farm?

Also, I checked the hydraulic oil via the dipstick located on the driver's side floorboard. It was overfull. Kind of odd considering the farm I got it from was very bad about maintenance.

I'd be looking at the 1. hydraulic pump, 2 hydraulic filter, 3 lines out of pump, if almost everything that is hydraulic powered is acting up.

In addition to what Stevo said start with the easier stuff. Check the quality of the oil first. I would first check for water by loosening the drain plug and let some contents run out to enable you to see what is in there. If it is bad looking stuff try to separate bad on the bottom from not so bad above it by allowing it to keep trickling. Before draining try to suspend crud by running it and raising and lowering the lift. If the oil is looking really bad you will want to just drain it all, then refill with cheap oil and run it to suspend crud, then drain and refill with good oil. If this cleaning and the filter doesn't clean it then go after relief valve and unloader valve.

If you drain it remove the pump and clean the strainer and check the pump It is recommend as a 2400 hr service.

Plus what all the others have said..

I have seen a tractor that had algae growing the hydraulic fluid and it had stopped up filter.. put in a new filter and everything was good for a couple of hours till it stopped up again. If cut the filter open and its full of a slimming goopy layer, your tractor could have a yeast (algae) infection... this tractor would measure great pressure at the remotes, but no volume through the pump,, giving similar problems.

UPDATE:
I Dropped the hydraulic oil out.It was very dirty and over full by 5 gallons. The filter was so faded, it was hard to read the numbers off it. Took the hydraulic pump off. It was the old style without the screen. Put it back together. Filled it up with new fluid and it works like a charm!!! Next is the power steering filter that. Would bet my paycheck hasn't been changed in 20 years. Thanks for the input gentlemen.
