851 diesel powermaster

I recently found one of those barn finds that you only hear about. It is a 1958 851 powermaster that was driven into the barn in 1987 and hasn't moved. It was a working tractor and therefore not perfectly
preserved but the price was right..free. I am having some difficulty with the rear tires that were completely destroyed from sitting on flats for 30 years. A quick look at Tractor data and we see 12-28 rear
wheels. The problem is it has 16.9-24 on it. The rims are the "old" style shackle mount like my Farmalls. I hate to buy new tires for rims that are not correct just to change later. Does this tire/ wheel
combination sound like something that came from the factory or was it a dealer installed thing?

If I remember right the 801/601 list the 24 as an option for the 801/601 series. Ya I could page threw my owners manual and be 100% sure but I have other things to do so will do so latter is you want me too

3x24 and 14x24 were optional

Optional from factory or dealer installed. Make sure the rims are good before you buy tires.

I like those tractors with 24 inch wheels on the rear. I have a couple tractors with 24 inch rears, one 14.9 and the other with 16.9. I know my 1801 industrial came with 24's.
