3000 6sp/8sp clutch swap question

I have an 8 speed with live PTO that the PTO clutch doesn't
release, but the tractor/transmission clutch works fine.

I also have a 335 with a 6 speed and non-live PTO that needs a clutch.

Any chance I can use the 8 speed clutch in the 6 speed if I put a
new clutch in the 8 speed?

To be a little more specific, the 6 speed clutch pedal is flat on the
floor board. No spring action at all. Clutch does not release at all.

I have not split either one to see what's going on inside yet.

Thanks RickB, it's not the single clutch that bugs me.
I was just hoping to salvage something out of the dual.
Splines different?

One transmission disc is 13" and the other is an 11" disc. The flywheels and pressure plates are completely different. Your problem with the 335 is within the pressure plate, release bearing sleeve, or cross shaft. You may not need any parts, just a split, unstick and clean up. It's not likely that the disc is the problem.

Ya, I realize it isn't the disk in that 335.
I didn't know they were different sizes though.
Had only glanced through the YT parts section and it lists
both 11 and 13 for both tractors under various listings.

I wouldn't order parts before checking it, I was just looking.
Seems a shame to throw out the good part of that dual.
Once I take it out, maybe I'll find that I can repair it.
Thanks again!

"Throw out"? Does the place that you buy your clutches from not charge a core charge that you get back when you give them your old one?

Sorry for the late reply Sean.
The tractor drive portion of this dual clutch is fine. No issues at all.
Sending a working clutch in for a core seems like throwing it away to me.
I was simply hoping to salvage something out of it.

I have the same issue with my 3000. Please post what you find when you finally split your tractor. I am wondering if there can be any other cause for this problem.

Bikerider, I finally got around to fixing this thing, and didn't
have to split it at all. Previous owner had put 1/4 inch bolts
in the linkage instead of the 3/8 pins it should have.
I replaced the two bolts and all is well.
