Ford 3000 carb problems on hill

I'm helping a neighbor on a 1974 3000 gas. I got it to run great, starts great but when he is mowing the ditch and gets it on an angle it will sputter out and die. Pull it to level it will sputter some but then clean out and run great again. I have tried float at a couple different settings to no avail. thanks

A few questions:

1. does it happen when angled to both the left and the right?

2. How full is the tank?

3. Is it still using the original mechanical fuel pump up on the front of the engine, or is it running on gravity feed?

My experiences is the float is bad and loaded with fuel BTDT...

You can get by with a heavy float on level but not at a angle... Think about it...

has new fuel pump on front of engine, half tank of fuel. same both ways. I read on an
old post something about this tractor having a hillside kit available for the carb but the
guys did not know what that would consist of. I will have to check with dealer if it is
still around or if it is true. thanks

Like Hobo said, it could be a flooded float.

It could also be a badly misadjusted float.

I believe the function of the accelerator pump in the carb was to solve the issue of the tractors being on hillsides. It def. sounds like float setting - it is probably one of the most important settings on the tractor. Make 100% sure it's right or you end up like me having to take the carb on/off and apart 4 times.

My 65 4000 3cyl did that chronically. I ditched the Holly for a Zenith and never looked back. The Zenith made a new tractor out of it.
