Diesel, gas would have the air filter
sticking out the side of the hood on the
left. As for value its different all
over the country, but nowadays I
wouldn't expect it to sell for much more
that 4 to 5k, probably less at auction
 
I agree with Mark, that from that one picture it should be a diesel, but you can never say for absolutely sure with these old Ford tractors. My 1973 4000 was ordered as a highway mower as part of a fleet purchase and it came from the factory with a gasoline engine, but it has a oil bath air filter like the diesels had of that time period, and as far as I can tell, everything on it is as it was when it left the factory. So never say "never" or "always" when talking about old Ford tractors.
 
Thanks gang, going to go check it out and see what happens at the auction. You never know around here I seen real deals while at the same time seen something go for more than you could buy the same thing new.
