Ford/New Holland 8360

Hello all,

Ive had such great help from everyone on here so I thought Id give it another try. I just purchased a 1998 New Holland 8360 and got one heck of a deal on it. Everything works great except one thing, the brakes. For some reason, the reservoir is completely empty. So I went to the dealership and bought 3 quarts of mineral oil hydraulic brake fluid. I started with the left rear brake. It bled out fine and took hold. However the right brake is another story. I bled through 1 1/2 quarts of fluid and it started to spit some fluid but never changed. Here's the weird part....I kept filling and filling the reservoir with no result, then when I stopped, I could see the reservoir drain without even touching anything....Ive never seen anything like it. The service dept said that it was a 3 quart system, but before I break open another $26 quart of fluid, I thought Id try here. Has anyone ever experienced this? My only guesses at this point is that its filling the system up, or I have a bad brake cylinder on the right side. Please, if anyone can offer any assistance, I would be very grateful. Thank you in advance.

You have o rings leaking at the wheel cylinders. The fluid leaks internally, so you never see signs of leaks. Both axle housings will have to come off. Pretty common problem on lots of models in that year range.

Thank you Mtf...I was afraid of that...this will be a new one for me. I haven't removed the axle housings before. I just got this tractor and haven't sourced the repair manual. I guess that's next on my list.

Now you know why you got such a heck of a deal on it. They didn't want to pull the axle housings to fix the problem. Keith
