My 1973 Ford 200 starts hard.. choke in or out, throttle lever at numerous positions. Just seems like luck if is starts.

However: once it is started it runs great and throttles good. Does not miss etc.Idles great

Is this a carb screw adjustment issue or is this bad part within the carb?

Thanks

New points properly gapped, old spark plugs but they were like new. Gapped at .023 factory spec is that too small?

Not sure about timing or spark. original coil

New points set to 0.023 I think if I remember right that is now wide enough they need to be at 0.025. As for spark it need to be a good blue/white and jump a 1/4 inch gap at all 4 plug wires and the center wire from the cap unless it is a 3 cylinder LOL

Make sure your choke plate is closing properly. cable can slip.
I'm not sure on that model, but if your choke plate has a little springed 'door' in it.....make sure it is there....

verify timing. I got a great deal on a 650 once because the dealer?! couldn't get it started. Initial timing was far too advanced. With the proper setting, it started instantly.

Bingo, NNP.

The choke cables are known to slip resulting in a choke plate that does not fully close.

The three cylinder gassers are notoriously hard starters if the choke does not close fully.
