Difference Between 2000-3000

I have a 66 Ford 3000,gas,8 speed live pto.Dad bought new.I bought another Ford today, deal I couldn't pass up.Owner inherited tractor, doesn't know much about it,but it is a 1967,according to owners. No decals, seems to look like my 3000,looks to be the same size, but I don't know what model it is.It's also gas 8 spd. live pto.I know there is a hp difference, even though they are the same displacement.Do 2000's have the same chassis size-sheet metal as a 3000?

Others know the details of what to look for better than I do, but there are minor differences. Some of those differences disappeared on later models, so your best bet is probably to look for the numbers stamped on the bellhousing, just above and to the rear of the starter. A 2000's model number will start with either a B or a 2, while a 3000's will start with a C or a 3.
Chances are, it's a 3000, as 2000's were initially only available with the 4-speed. 3000's have a square rear axle and an enclosed draft spring. 2000's initially had round axles and an exposed draft spring.

The sheet metal and most other appearance items are identical between the 2000 and 3000.

In addition to the things to look for that fordfarmer has already mentioned, Another place to check is on the right side of the engine block, toward the front, just above the oil pan, there is a flat rail that should be a stamped number in it that is the engine serial number, and that number would start with the letter B if it is a 2000 and start with a C if it is a 3000.

Thanks guys,got it home,it's a 2000,exposed draft spring.Does have the square rear axle like our 3000 though.Runs good,8 speed with 2 stage clutch,live pto,has 4 almost new tires,rears are Firestone Field and Roads.Came with a 3 point scraper blade,too.Couldn't turn it down for a $1000.

$1000? No, you certainly couldn't turn that down!
if it has an 8-speed and square axle, I'd bet it's newer than a '67.

I'll get the numbers off it today and see if I can decode it,and find out exactly what it is,thanks.

Decoded it,it is a American made 1966,2000,gas,live pto 540,8 speed.Driving it around today,it feels stronger than our 3000.I think our 3000 is kind of worn out, lots of hours on it.Nice to have a spare or replacement if needed.Going to strap the bush hog on it this weekend and give it some exercise.
