3600 pressure plate.

Now that I have the tractor in two pieces and the clutch removed need some help opinions on the next step.

I have a spare dual disk pressure plate that was supposedly working fine when removed. I also have the one I just removed from the 3600. The face of the spare has a pretty good coat of rust but looks to be in good condition. The one out of the 3600 has a pretty good gouge in the middle of the plate from the rivets.

My original idea was to take both to a local clutch rebuilder and let them sort out what would be the best fix, install/supply new disks and I would have been good to go. Problem is it looks like another long time business that did good work is on it's way to closing the doors and they were the only game in town.

So now what do I do, anyone ever taken apart a Ford dual clutch pressure plate? Can it be done in the average shop? I can clean up the rust and both pressure plates look to be in good shape other than rust on one and scoring on the other. Would like to use the best PTO disk but not sure how to tell which one is in the best condition without disassembly.

Ya I could just buy a complete kit but if I can use what I have it would save me at least a couple hundred bucks.

Do you have a service manual that explains the set-up procedure for this clutch? If not,
get one. I have a couple of Ford Clutch fixtures, which makes it an easy job. It can be
done in a shop press. The springs are color coded , put them in the right places and be
sure and get the right size drill bit.Drill Bit??? The manual will explain.

If you were going to buy new discs anyway.... honestly, the cheapest and easiest route is to just buy a Hy-capacity reman and exchange the
bad one you have. I haven't priced one lately but I'd wager it's 5-600 and you slap it on and get going. Make a point of getting the flywheel
ground tho if it's grooved...

Have the IT manual for the 3600 and a repro Ford manual for my 3000. Also have a shop press and several drill indexes. This is encouraging, thanks.

I have a local clutch builder that will supply you with the disc if you need them.
Torn the face off of the pto disc some years ago and he sold me the one disc.

Thanks, have the clutch plate on order from this site and the PTO plate in my spare PP looks almost new. Did find a local company that can resurface the flywheel and pressure plate.

New plan is to disassemble both pp's and let the shop clean up the friction surfaces then build one PP from the best of both.

I glanced at the IT manual and doesn't look to be very difficult to R&R the PP.

Nothing is ever easy is it?

Attempted to disassemble one of the pressure plates this morning without much success. IT book says to apply press to housing and remove pins on the release levers. Ford book says to insert several spacers and use the Ford jig with a black blob picture that is typical of repro books.

Made up a jig that would just press down on the housing but the release levers never got free enough to be able to remove the pin. They moved down with the housing and stayed under tension. Did I miss a step, what's the trick?

Figured it out, you need to temporarily bolt the cover to the PTO plate so when pressure is applied it frees up the release levers.

For future reference.. Do not mess with this stuff, not worth the effort and time, just buy the complete kit in the first place and be done with it.

I had everything but the PP either on hand or on order and just ordered the PP from this site. Would have been allot better off listening to the recommendations and buying the whole kit in the first place. Not all of my ideas work out as I hope...
