Ford 4610 Identification

I have just purchased my first Tractor; A 1987 Ford 4610 and have a few questions. All the specs. I can find indicate
this tractor came with a 3 cyl. diesel engine but this particular tractor ( Model:DY354C) has a 4 cyl. diesel. I
searched the archives and found an older thread discussing this topic with no conclusion. Any information on this would
be appreciated. Also I noticed in the photos of 99% of 4610 Tractors the exhaust exits through the hood, mine exits
from the bottom left side. I was told this is because it's an "Orchard" model? I can't find any info on this either.

Thanks

4 ? Ind. 540 rpm

4610's were 3 cylinder 201 engines, have you compared the tag under the hood with the numbers stamped just above and behind starter?

Hi, thanks for the info. Yes I did compare the numbers and the number stamped on the engine matches the number on the tag.

I sell parts for two different 4610's factory equipped with 4 cylinder engines. I even was able to find the correct drag link for one in the parts catalog (on the second try!).

I've never seen a 4-cylinder 4610, but I've talked to a guy who's seen several. Said that was a popular option in the orchard models.
Wasn't that a separate model later on - called the 4810 or 4830 or something like that?

There are 4830's which I've never seen. Guy on here from KY has one. There were also 5030's. Both were 3 cyl chassis with 4 cylinder engines. We sold a half dozen or so of the 5030's. I don't think the 4 cyl 4610's in my trade area are configured as narrows. It stands to reason they would be built that way, as the hp demands of air blast sprayers were ahead of narrow tractor technology for most of the 1980's and 1990's.
