Ford 5000 engine Problems

I am hoping someone can help, I am having a few problems with my Diesel Ford 5000. A little back ground on tractor. I bought the tractor with a blown head gasket, the previous owner pulled the head and sent off to be checked and overhauled, when he reinstalled the head he put the wrong head gasket on and it did not hold up (he used the gas head gasket not the diesel one) he never worked the tractor after putting it back together before I bought it. Since I have had it I replaced all 4 injectors, head gasket, valve cover gasket and flushed the cooling system and replaced all filters about 10hrs ago.

The first problem I am having is the coolant loss thru the exhaust. I add about 3-4 gallons of water every time I run the tractor, there is no visible external leak and water will blow out of the exhaust on startup (I have an exhaust running under rear axle so I know it is not rain) it overheats almost every time I run it and have to let it cool down to add more water. Does anyone know where to start looking?

The second problem I am having is blow back, most of the time it is just steam but every once in a while there is an oily goop on the tie rod. Stated above I Just replaced the head gasket and valve cover gasket about 10hr ago and last time I ran it I blow the new valve cover gasket and lost almost all the oil. What could be causing this blow back? Every once in a while I will have loss of power and the tractor will just billow out black smoke.

Sounds like your head gasket is shot (best case) or cracked block /head.

You can pull the head and have it check for cracks. If it checks good, then I would look at the block. If the block was bored it may have a hole one in of the cylinders. There can be thin spots from cavitation on the coolant side of the cylinder walls.
