851 check valve pilot removal

I'm working on that 851 I posted about earlier.
The lift arms only raise to 18".
I removed the top cover with the intention of cleaning and
adjusting it, along with replacing worn parts as needed.

Now I'm trying to get the check valve and back pressure valves
out to clean and inspect them. I removed the cap #13 but I
cannot get the check valve pilot #14 to budge. Not even to
turn. Any tips or tricks before I accidentally break something?

wish I could help you with that, but beyond light oil formulas and tapping, ??
If that is stuck, you probably really have a wall at #20!

Thanks JMOR, that's what I've been trying.
I don't want to tap too hard for fear of breaking it.
It seems to be stuck good, but it does not appear rusty.
At least not from the end of the hole.
 
Does look like the way that the end of it is shaped that you might get a "homemade" tool to slip in the grove to pull on it.
Maybe a small washer with slot cut in it & welded onto end of tubing?
 
Well, I beat the end of it up a bit, but I got it out.
Hopefully I can file that down enough to re-use it.
Now I have to find a bolt long enough to pull the seat.

What size rod/bolt did you use to make that puller. I have a feeling that I'll be into a top cover in the near future.

Chilidawg, the internal threads for the seat are 3/8 NF.
I didn't have a fine threaded bolt long enough, so I welded a 3/8
NC nut to the end of a shorter 3/8 NF bolt, then screwed a 3/8 NC
bolt into that nut to use as the puller section.

The pipe I had on hand was not quite large enough to fit outside
the threaded hole where the plug screws in, so I used that big
washer. They let the welded nut and the head of the other bolt
pull through, along with the seat assembly.
I'll have to check the size of that pipe/conduit that I used.
It was thick walled conduit, not actually pipe.

If I have to do it again, I might just use a bigger pipe instead.
In any event, it worked with what I had on hand.
