Ford 3600 pto wont stay engaged

I have a Ford 3600 that the pto jumps out gear when I'm brush hogging. Where is the best place to start? I read it might be a snap ring. If you grab the pto shaft it has some play in and out.

FYI,
Not good advice. Fix the problem. The bungee fix will cause the shafts to wear.
Also make sure to check all the PTO driven equipment to ensure that the shafts are not too long or binding, as this is the real cause for the broken snap ring.

thrust play?

Then you will need to pull the shaft assy and rebuild it.

I don't know about any differences on a 3600 vs the older models, but you might want to have the pto lever engaged when you pull it to keep a washer in place.
