Tw 10 transmission

I have a TW 10 that I purchased recently, however the return line to the oil cooler burst on me on the road! It dumped all the oil before I noticed and unfortunately came to a grinding halt! The previous owner had used heater hose to replace the original sometime in the past......Anyhow, I would like to get it fixed. The tractor has dual power, but no 3 point hitch. I was toying with the idea of maybe finding a donor to get a transmission and complete rear end with a factory 3 point hitch. Does anyone know of a suitable donor tractor with perhaps a blown engine or suchlike (preferably in western Canada)? Secondly what models of Ford would share the same transmission/rear end, would I be right in thinking anything from an 8000 to the newer TWs?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It's hard to believe the trans locked up because of loss of oil. As soon as it was empty the Dual Power would simply drop out of gear from lack of operating pressure. Did you fix the leak and fill it up and see if it moves? If it really is locked up, in my opinion it failed coincidentally with the oil loss, not because of it. You have to do a double split anyway, why not take it apart and see what's wrong with it? I'm not real certain of the parts interchangeability between 8000/TW-10, but you are talking a span of about 15 years. I wouldn't feel comfortable with a donor trans of unknown history. Try calling Worthington Ag parts ( nationwide conglomeration of tractor salvage yards) and explain to them that you want to add 3-point stuff, and they will figure out all the pieces you need to convert it. I would try not to change the center housing if I didn't have to.

I agree with Fritz - it likely stopped because the oil level got so low that the transmission pump could no longer supply adequate pressure for the dual power. Put some oil in the thing and try it again before you jump to conclusions.

If you need a donor trans, it would have to be from a TW only because of the rear mounted transmission oil pump. Older tractors had the pump in the rear axle.

thanks guys, but maybe I should've been clearer. I'm not jumping to conclusions. First thing I did was fix the hose and refill with oil. Tractor would run fine, but gearshift wouldn't move and as soon as I eased the clutch it would try and stall the tractor. I have the transmission out and fourth gear and the one beside it have friction welded themselves to the bottom shaft!!! Struggling to find parts and quite a chore to even get fully apart without damaging more parts in the process. Bear in mind this happened going down the road with everything running wide open, it took no time for the oil to be pumped out, there was still some oil in the system, but obviously not enough left in the transmission to lubricate these gears spinning on the shaft at maximum speed. I'm sure if this had happened in the yard or field I wouldn't be in this predicament, but there we are. The gears are definitely friction welded to the shaft, there's no freeing them off, would need to be cut out for sure. I had another mechanic friend look at it also, you can see the heat marks on the gears where they got hot.

OK, since you have major damage, you're either looking for used gears & shafts, a complete trans only, or a trans & rear axle assembly.

As I said in my last post, a complete trans would have to be a TW only because of the unique transmission pump. If you're looking for a complete trans and axle assembly, you could also include the 8700-9700 models, because they use the same gearshift linkage. Older tractors (8000-9600) will NOT work because of the completely different gearshift linkage, both internal and external.

If you're merely looking for good used parts such as the bottom shaft, I *suspect* that there is some interchangeability between models, however proceed with caution and compare with the parts manuals before springing for a bunch of used parts. Myself, I think I'd look for the parts I need out of a TW salvage trans.
