8N exhaust turning it 180

So my 8N has a back hoe on it. The exhaust comes out right under where you sit and if there is no wind it can gag you. So I am thinking about turning it 180 so instead of out the back it comes out the front and under the loader frame.

So have any of you ever done this and how many problem did you run into when you did it??

Thanks

I'd be worried about ramming it into something facing forward. If you don't off-road like I do I suppose it'd be easy to check. Don't forget to put a support bracket, maybe off an oilpan bolt?

Front end loader and grill guard will pretty much stop that from happening. The bucket will hit anything before the exhaust pipe will unless the bucket is way up in the air and I never drive it with the bucket up any higher then need be to go where I need to go

Had the same problem cutting wood on a 9N with a cordwood saw. Gaging on exhaust.

Yesterday's tractor company sells a vertical exhaust pipe kit for a very good price... Plus the vertical exaust just looks cooler...LOL

Hope that helps

I've thought about that also. But with having the loader frame etc that maybe hard to do. I did turn it 180 but I notice the exhaust still seem to cause problems since it seems like the fan picks up the exhaust and then sends it right back to the rear of the tractor. I may look into a way of sticking it up vertical.

I've had the verticle exhaust stack on my 9N with one of the old jungle Jim type Wagner loaders on it. It's a tight squeeze but it does work.

Only time ther is a problem is if you ever want to remove the loader from the tractor... The exaust will have to come off first. No way to get the cross piece of the loader frame that goes over where the fast filler is up and over the tall exhaust.

One tip if you do go verticle.... Be careful mounting it... Have a second person hold it upright while you bolt on the clamp and bracket... Had mine work loose while tightening it down and if it leans forward its in perfect alignment to hit the positive charging stud on the altanator and ground out the charging circuit. ... Oops!

The manifold on this 8N is broken where the clamp goes on it so it has a piece of pipe slid up on the manifold. Been this way since who know when. My dad got this 8N back in the 80s and it has been a neat little backhoe set up
