How much does this weigh?

About how much do you think this trailer weighs? I have a 62 ford 4000 and a 75 2000, both with weights. Want to tow with 2005 Silverado 1500 (around 7000lb towing rating). Estimating tractors are about 4200lbs? Is this trailer overkill?

I don't think the trailer is overkill. If your tractor tires are loaded, your tractor weights are underestimated. And your truck is marginal. Not grossly
inadequate, but marginal. I have a 2004 Sierra 1500 and have pulled a fully loaded 7000 lb trailer enough to know.

There's nothing wrong with a pintle hook connection. Nothing at all.

The trailer in the pic has a ring pintle hitch... Not ment for a 1/2 ton Silverado.... Need at least a 2500 ... Best a 3500

Very heavy trailer pictured.... Usually those are being pulled by triaxle dump trucks.

It will kill your lil Chevy.... Also to even think of moving any load over 3000 pounds your truck needs to have a brake controller and trailer needs working brakes... It's the law in some places.

A new Hudson trailer like that one is rated at 6 ton and weighs 2,400 lbs. empty. That being said you could haul 9,600 lbs. pay load.
That's what Hudson calls a skidsteer trailer. You could haul one at a time but not both at the same time.

I had to come back and ask what is the hitch under truck rated at. My bother in laws GMC 1500 2 wheel drive has only a 5,000 lb. hitch.

Mesh gate and side rails like a landscape trailer but pintle hitch like a equipment trailer, trailer should weigh around 2500-3300 lbs, A tractor with flooded tires or very many wheel weights will destroy that mesh tail gate. the 62 4000 should weigh around 3400 plus fluid and or weights. the 2000 should weigh around 3800 plus fluid and or weights.
You should be able to haul ether one, but only one at a time, you will be at the upper limit of the trucks capability and I advise you have a trailer brake controller.

No sure if your truck has a 4L60E or 4L65E trans but I can tell you that's the weak point in your truck.
The wife's 01 Z71 1500 has power adders, I towed a couple of good sized loads (8-10,000 lbs) with it only to have transmission issues shortly after each load was hauled.
We had it up graded to a 4L80E and haven't had any more trans issues.

I have pulled my trailer with a GMC K1500 for 6 years to shows and pulls (20 a year) with no problems. Trailer weighs 4,200lbs. ,IH 450
8,000lbs.,and WD45 5,000lbs.. I change fluid in trans every other year.

That K1500 has a 3/4 ton frame and rear springs from factory . It also has engine and oil coolers with same radiator as a 3/4 ton and a 16,000lb. class V hitch.

In this area we have both hills and flat land. In hills I drop down into D3 but most of our hills are rolling hills with a very few steep hills.

Hitch just bolts on has nothing to do
with tow vehicle, many light plants and
compressors that weigh under 2000lbs
have pintal eye hitch so it makes no
difference.

FAIR WARNING:

Do not exceed the weight limit for towing of your vehicle... If in doubt check the sticker on the door.

In my state the DMV police love to pull over and spot check guy like us that have privately owned truck and trailers beacuse they know that a lot of us don't know what we can tow legally or don't care.

Had a buddy pulling a Farmall H on a trailer very similar to one pictured with a F-150.... Got pulled over

Impounded the truck, trailer, and tractor, suspended license, towing fee, fines and storage fees.... Cost him thousands and he was only a couple hundred pounds over what the door sticker said he could legally pull.

The trailer pictured is great and will take a bunch a weight... But if your really serious about pulling it regularly to places I'd be trading up to at least a 2500 .... Or 3500.

Just my 2cents don't want ya getting in trouble.
