FORD 5000 Hydraulic question

A few days back I posted about a 5000 that I purchased. I was having trouble with the 3pt hitch lift arms not dropping. I ordered a owners manual an got it yesterday. Was reading about a auxiliary service control valve. It said that it needs to be pushed in for the lift arms to work and out for remotes to work. I can not get the knob to push in or pull out. I'm not sure if it is in or out. If it is out, would this prevent the lift arms from dropping when I move the lever down? What do I need to do to get this valve to move in and out? I tried tapping on it with a rubber mallet to try seeing if I could get it in. If it is in, how can I get it out? Thanks for any help
 
Post a clear picture from the side or top so somebody can tell you whether it is in or out. Close enough to see, far enough away to have a frame of reference to its surroundings.
 
Got the valve to move this afternoon . It was stuck in. Pried on it and it finely moved. Worked it back and forth but still that did not help with getting the 3pt hitch arms to drop. Guess will have to take the top cover off. Don't know what else to try.
 

Yes you need to pull the lift cover off. If I was you I would go ahead and purchased the gasket kit I got mine out of Tennessee really cheap off eBay it had all the O-rings even for the remote cylinder it also had the O-ring and backup ring for the piston on the lift cylinder. Good luck
 

First off.. have you put weight on the arms.. .I have someone stand on the arms and jump a bit as these tractors have set up for a long time in the up position and they can get tight... usually having a big person step on the arms will break them loose.

I have had some where the control valve was stuck in the up position and some where the unload valve was stuck..

but most could be shook loose by finding a robust friend to stand on the arms while holding on the the fenders...
