restoring tractor

I am in the mist of restoring my dad 1953 NAA tractor. Opened up the hydraulics and found a mess. Seems water has gotten in and rusted most of the levers that they cant be use. Question is where are any of you getting parts to restore tractors? I have found some of the parts but dont know the condition of them. I also would like to know how the serial numbers work, mine is, from what I can see is NAA 71741 with a diamond after it.

Thanks

Some parts are still available new. New Holland now owns the legacy of the Ford tractor brand and any parts that are still available new you can get from any New Holland dealer, but they probably won't have them in stock at the dealership so they will have to order them from a central warehouse. My New Holland dealer gets a regular parts delivery from the warehouse once a week and they do not charge shipping for anything that you can wait for that weekly delivery to get. if you need it sooner then you need to pay shipping.

Other parts are available from third party aftermarket companies like Tisco, and those can be bought at lots of places, like Tractor Supply and many on-line web sites.

The parts that are no longer available new from New Holland or aftermarket manufacturers you will need to check with salvage yards for, or maybe find a non-running tractor that you can purchase inexpensively to use as a parts donor.

I am not sure what you mean by "how the serial numbers work". They gave each tractor that came off of the assembly line the next sequential serial number from the previous one, and for the same series/model they continued to increment the serial numbers from one year to the next. Yours is a late 1953 serial number. The NAA tractors made in 1953 had serial numbers ranging from NAA 04930 to NAA 77474 and the first serial number for 1954 was NAA 77475.

If the top cover is heavily rusted underneath, you may be money ahead to buy a new top cover vs buying parts.

Where are you located? I have a couple spare NAA top
covers and other NAA parts here in central Michigan.
Also, many parts can be bought from our hosts here at YT.
