Does a 65 Ford 4000 3 cyl gas have a dual stage clutch or single? It's a dual range transmission with 4 gears in each range. Also has an independent pto.
Reason I'm asking is a friend of mine and myself just spent 4 days putting a clutch in the darn thing and now that it's back together it won't go into gear. The ford/new Holland tractor dealer service dept in louisville ky says it has a dual stage clutch that needs to be properly adjusted or set up before it goes into the tractor. Local tractor service shop in my hometown says that's not the case unless you disassemble the pressure plate, which I did not do. I only installed a new clutch disc. I only changed the disc because the tractor wasn't running when the clutch failed and the entire clutch was replaced about 3 yrs ago by the previous owner. The reason the clutch failed I'm told is because we tried to pull start the tractor because it wouldn't start....that's a mistake I won't make again.
So I got the new clutch disc from napa auto parts which they ordered through thier tractor parts supplier. It's identical to the clutch disc that came out of it. Local tractor mechanic says it sounds to him like we installed the disc backwards, said not to trust the sticker on the disc that says FW side.
Some people I ask about it says it's a dual stage clutch others say it isnt....need some insight.
