5000 actual wheel width 18.4-26?

I am trying to figure out what the actual wheel width is on a 1965 5000 diesel standard front with 18.4-26 rear tires? I am trying to determine if the used tires from the 5000 would fit on a Minneapolis Moline 1959 GBD which currently has 23.1-26 rear tires? Not having luck finding a used 23.1-26 tire in California. Found an 18.4-26 though. Thanks for your help.

You can usually go up or down one size from what is
meant to fit a given rim, unless you're going to be
near the tire's maximum load or if you're using
radials. But a 23.1 is two sizes wider than a 18.4, and
is meant for a 4" wider rim.
23.1x26 is a common size for older combines. Any
parts yard with combines from the '70's and '80's
should have them. Maybe someone on the hauling
schedule could get one to you, if you can't find one
reasonably close.

18.4 would be the width of the tire at it's widest point if mounted to the wheel rim width....the place where the side of the tire bead seats against the inside of the wheel specified on the side of the tire.

I have the same thing on my Ford 2000 and 3000 running 13.6 x 28 tires on a 12x28 rim which also runs a 12.4x 28.....both tire sizes are in the spec. sections of the service manuals as standard tires to be run on that wheel on those tractors. The tire sidewall states that to get that width at the specified 20 psig tire pressure (4 ply for this tire) you would have to have it mounted on a 12" wheel rim (mounting surfac width).

I had a 4000 4 cyl SOS once that had the fat tires on it. They were either 16.9 or 18.4 on a narrower diameter wheel than I have now and was probably 26" as yours. This was the "utility" tire setup rather than the ag. setup. The serv. manual also specifies that tire for the tractor but obviously it is for the 26" wheel. I'm thinking 18.4 was the number....they were very wide for that small of a machine. I ran 18.4 38's on my 96 and 100 hp Deers and the width wasn't so pronounced there.

Probably a 16.9x24. 243's were optional on the 3000. 26" are not common on tractors.... not on Fords, anyway.
