crankshaft driven hyrdaulic pump

53-Ford NAA

New User
Hello All,
Not sure if this is the right place to post this as it is not tied to the tractor type but here it goes.

I have a ford jubilee, there was a front crankshaft driven hydro pump for the homemade front end loader on it when I got the tractor a few years ago.

I cannot track down any information on the pump based on the makings on the pump.(pictured) The front drive shaft seal is bad/gone. There was a steel "washer" (pictured) where the seal should be.

My question is, does that seal need to hold the hydraulic pressures? or is it just more of a dust seal?

Anyone every seen this pump and have any idea as to the MFG?

Thanks for any help you can provide.
Thanks
Dennis

I'd say it was more of a dust seal, but also holds back seepage while the system is shut down and the gravity pressure from the hydraulic fluid tank keeps trying to find a way out. The pressure should not be high because the gear fits so close to the insides of the pump chamber and minimizes the oil that reaches the shaft. There may be a small channel leading to the suction side which will pull off the leakage oil. Lots of detail considerations even in something as simple as a gear pump.

I can't say what brand it is. But one company among several would be Parker Hannifin. We're talking
about something around 1500 psi, and a few gallons at 1000 rpm. Enough to not go too fast or too slow.

Looks like the early model pump used on a Dearborn loader for the 8N through NAA series tractors.
Models 19-22, 23, 42, 60,61,70 & 71
The washer is part of the seal, item # 51 Ford part # D3NNJ969A that has been discontinued. This number also shows up for item# 50 - a 5/16 lock washer, so I'm not sure if it was a good number at one time or not
The 99-12 stamped in the washer is all or part of the seal # but my search didn't come up with anything.
You may have to measure the housing and shaft sizes and get a parts store to match one up it fit.

Since this pump was originally made for a 8N I'd post in the 8N section, you may get more results.

That appears to be the same pump that I had on my Wagner loader many years ago. Pump went bad and I got a replacement pump out of a "Red Book' that specialized in all kinds of hydraulic pumps, hoses and fittings. The replacement pump bolted right in on the same platform of the Wagner's original pump.

So I did replace the seal with just a dust seal and all is working fine. no more leaks!!!!!

just wanted to post in case anyone else came across this.

Have a great day ALL

Dennis
