3600 oil cooler

After working my new to me 3600 for a couple hours yesterday I discovered the oil cooler is leaking. It's the cooler itself, looks like it had been hit sometime in it's life and finally gave up. A quick on-line search reviled that oil cooler must be made out of some kind of gold alloy. Any reason not to just use a ~$30.00 transmission cooler from the local auto parts store?

Slowly getting the quirks worked out on this tractor, also discovered a bad wheel bearing on the right front and it has way too much toe-in.

That is certainly what I would do.

Thanks again guys, found the local O'Reilly's has the Hayden 401 in stock for $29.99. Will probably pick it up today. Pretty sure those lines are on the return side (low pressure) but wondering what kind of hose I will need and will the local O'Reilly's have it. Am sure I will need to run new hose from the steel lines to the new cooler.

Make sure you use line rated for oil coolers, typically rated at like 300 PSI or so. Using fuel line or heater hose will create a mess down the road (don't ask how I know that).

Good advice.
My local CarQuest keeps various sizes in stock. Replaced the hoses on my 7600's cooler several years ago... no problems since.

When I got my '73 S-O-S 4000, the transmission oil cooler lines had been jury rigged using heater hose, and that lasted about 10 minutes once I started working it. The original hard lines were there, but the original rubber sections were gone, along with the parts of the hard lines where they were crimped to the rubber sections. I replaced the heater hose with 300 psi hydraulic hoses and used regular worm gear hose clamps and they've been fine for over 8 years now.
