NAA Motor Rebuild

Well I did it, bought a kit from Yesterdays, complete with new crank and all the sleeves, pistons etc. How the question I have is do I need to surface the block and head so there flat to each
other? I have seen many posts from other forums asking about the sleeves, the thickness of them, do they need to sit flush with block, things like that. What problems am I going to have doing this?

thanks

It is always good to have a machine shop check and magnaflux the block and also have the head done and valve done at the same time. They will dip both so as to make them metal clean as in no paint or any thing else left in/on them

"do I need to surface the block and head"

You need to have a machine shop do that unless you are a
machinist with all the tools and experience to do it yourself.
I would also have them fit and hone the sleeves.

Is this your first engine rebuild? There are lots of little things.
Plasti-gauge, engine pre-lube, oil pump priming, line boring,
clearances and torque specifications on everything, etc.

Yes. While the machine shop has the head, let them do a three angle valve job on it. I did not replace my sleeves as they had no appreciable wear ridge. The machine shop honed my cylinders and boiled out the castings.
