the never ending saga of my 3400

Replaced the starter so I could move some dirt and noticed before hand that the clutch wasn't always releasing. It would work but not 100 percent. Moved some dirt and it got progressively worse. Had to move and old truck up to the road to sell so I needed the tractor, it shifted fine into first and reverse, even into 4th and 5th to see if it would travel in that gear and it does. When I stopped to shift back into 1st, it tried over running the brakes before I forced it into neutral. The clutch wasn't working so I massaged it into first to park it by the garage. That's when I noticed it leaking white milk from the weep hole in the bottom of the trans housing. I have probably 10 hours on it and its been covered when not in use, the clutch thing just started so I'm hoping its ok.

The guy I bought the tractor off of never maintained it. Choke cable seized, grab some wire. Fuel pump stops working, bypass it. Generator quits, just charge the battery when you need it. Exhaust rusts out, jam a pipe in the manifold and try to weld it. Frustratingly easy things that I did as time allowed. The gear shifter spins so I pulled the cover to work on it, no gasket, just sealant that pealed right off. Found the source of the water. Going to order the parts to repair that.

Now, my question. I know Ill have to split it from the motor. I looked on Messicks parts diagram and saw no mention of a seal but have read of one in my online searchings. Is it a tight sealed bearing? What should i look for? I'm sure it will be obvious once I'm in there. Also, what fluid should i put back in? My manual jumps all over and doesn't list my transmission. I'm thinking a model specific manual will get ordered.

Seal on input shaft. Put one the 4500TLB that is a project have had in indivual pieces r/a trans engine front support. Had head off for valve seats. Have r/a down now putting outer seals and brake disc. Then hoe/loader will be pricy. Lots of hoses to replace.

i was able to find this, is part number 9 (or preceding 9.x) the actual seal?

It looks to me like it calls for both 9 and 10. Don't think for a minute that keeping it covered will keep water out of the transmission or your other housings for that matter.

Thanks, my manual doesn't include my transmission. It's gotta keep some out vs not covered at all. Condensation will still happen but the shifter plate was pretty much unsealed for a long time. Luckily everything looks good in there though as rust and corrosion

I sent you one through the forum gearz, thanks.

Started taking the loader off but I have to take the oldest to dance class

tried replying via the ytforum and copy pasting your birbaol email and both bounced. Try just shooting me an email from yours and I'll try it again.

Got your 3rd times a charm reply and responded.

Got the loader off, I don't think it's been off since they put it on. May need to torch the bolts to get the fenders off.

Side note, a john deere 750 with a boom is not enough tractor to use the end loop of the boom. I had to raise the three point lever a bit the help to get over the front axle. You guys that door this wit basic tools are some bad mofos haha. I had a leaky jack, blocks and prybar. Oof.
