After market gauge cluster doesn't fit.

Gauge Cluster on my new to me 3600 was toast so I ordered the after market cluster everyone and their brother seems to be selling. Figured out all the wires and lights but it will not go all the way in. Hard to tell if something is hitting the gas tank or if it is hitting the cutout.

Wondering if anyone has ran into this and what you discovered and how did you solve the problem?

Could be as simple as bending the spade lugs a bit, changing the angle of them, so that the wire ends dont hit the gas tank, or pulling the slack out of the tach cable back down towards the motor.

Its the bottom of the guage cluster that is closest to the tank so I would look there first and work my way upward

also check around the outside edge of the cluster looking for any bumps, gaskets sticking out or other things that would interfere,,, its hard for us to see whats hitting and where.

If you can't see in there and nothing else works try putting a thin layer of something on the tank (grease, play dough) then try putting inthe gauge cluster and see if the gauge cluster hits and leaves a mark on what ever you put on the gas tank

I bought the set for my 54 NAA from this site. the tach and oil pressure gauge didn't fit the holes. they weren't off by much so I broke out the Dremmel and hone a little and they slipped in fine. probably something in the translation from Chinese to American.

"its hard for us to see whats hitting and where."

Hard for me also :)

Going to hit it again in the morning and maybe try the play dough suggestion. I have looked back from under the hood with a light. Didn't see anything obvious but couldn't really see the complete bottom of the cluster.

If I come up with anything I'll post back in case someone else runs into the same issue.

I won!
After a little trial and error discovered it was the tach cable that was hitting the raised ridge on top of the fuel tank. For lack of a better solution I grabbed a pair of Vice grips, clamped to the ridge and bent it to the left right where the tack cable was hitting. This ridge is a seam covered with a shield to prevent the sharp metal from cutting into the wiring for the cluster. I didn't try to remove the shield just clamped over it. Didn't take much of a bend and the cluster slipped right in.

I would suggest anyone buying one of these aftermarket clusters also order a new gasket. My old gasket was in pretty sad shape but this tractor will never be left out in the rain so I didn't bother replacing it.

Thanks for the help gang, think it's ready to be put to work. Still want to add rear remotes for top and tilt but that can wait for a while.
