Lift Cover Adjustments

Would someone please steer me to the best posting describing the method of lift cover adjustment. 1957 Ford Workmaster. I have a new piston, o-rings and gaskets. I've seen a couple articles that touched on the adjustment but not a step by step procedure in how to make the adjustments without special tools.

Unless you have the special Nuday tools, UD, below, is correct.

Follow the alternative (no special tools needed) procedures in the F0-20 manual.

If you follow the procedures precisely, the adjustments will closely approximately the procedures in the Ford service manual, which require the special tools.

If you run out of threads on the turnbuckle (not uncommon), replace the draft control fork.

Measurement to "machined surface" is something that the man needs to understand.....that is the make or break!

Here's my method. No special tools needed.

! This works on NAAs and hundred series. First of all, the system has to be able to have a hold position in draft mode. In other words, start the engine, have the little side lever in draft position and find a spot ,with the control lever ,where the lift arms will stay stationary. Mark that spot on the lever and the lever guide,(magic marker). Now remove the lift chest.
Determine the hold position of the control valve, (line up your previous marks on the quadrant)(Lift arms anywhere but not at extreme top) Measure the distance between the outer landing on the control valve and the stop plate, bolted to the cylinder. I made a gauge out of a peace of metal to slip between the control valve landing the plate. Now position the control lever where you desire the hold position to be in draft mode ,and adjust the draft control linkage ( directly attached to the control valve) to your previously made gauge.
Now move the draft lever to position control, put the lift arms all the way down, put the touch control lever down to it?s stop, and adjust the position control spring to the gauge you just made. The adjustment is made at the spring that has a little short pin sticking out as a guide for the threaded bracket. Takes a 9/16 and a 5/8 wrench, or is it ? and 9/16, can?t remember off hand . Remember to make all necessary repairs, including the cam follower pin before making any adjustments. You should be able to determine hold position relative to quad lever position all the way to the top, and be able to ?cheat? to your hearts content

I have the Ford Service Manual. The adjustment procedure requires the special fixture. Where is the best place to get the FO-20 manual?

After taking several pictures and measuring spring length, I have taken the top cover completely apart for cleaning. Upon inspection the lift cam and pin are severely worn and the lift cover plate, p/n 957E527, is worn as well as the pin pressed through it. Question is, several vendors offer the new plate but without the pin. Is the pin no longer needed? The plate I'm speaking of is the triangle shaped plate with three bolt holes and a 1/4" pin pressed through under one of the bolt holes.
