Just received spin on kit for my 640 Ford tractor
My tractors thread size wear the bolt enters block holding canister on is the same thread as the new spin on filter. The thread on the adapter that I asume
Threads into block ( because other end fits filter ) is way to big.
This is the second kit if tried both the same
Any thoughts on why my tractor is this way?

I see the diagram, I will have to look at mine again. I looked
at when I had it apart for first kit, I didn't think it looked
like it had a bushing in it.....but I was kinda in a hurry.
I will take a closer look
Thank you!

My question, why change the filter housing out now?
Old tractor has ran fine for 50 years, still running good, sounds like someone did something right years ago,

I have a new van and they have gone back to using a cartridge filter, no spin on filter,

The outer housing on the cartridge filter is much stronger than a spin on filter, if something were to bounce up and hit the spin on filter housing,
bust it you could lose all your oil,

Just my two cents

I have a spin-on adapter on my 9700. I just sent a check to a salvage yard to get the original cartridge system back. The spin-on makes just as big a mess, costs $20 more than a cartridge, and the giant oil filter wrench is always at the wrong farm.

A Ford Motor craft FL1A filter can be bought at Wally World for $3.90 and usually doesn't need a wrench.
