Another 3000 question

One of the tractors I'm looking at is gas but it has what looks like the diesel oil bath intake tube in the front like the one I have. It also has the paper filter hole in the side of the hood. Were 3000's produced with both intake filters or has something (sheet metal) been replaced on this tractor?

Thanks

The gassers all came with the dry filter;the diesels all came with the oil bath. Neither one ever had both, at least not from the factory. Not at all uncommon for tractors to have had sheet metal replaced after 35+ years of use.

I should have added that the air inlet for the gassers is in the same place as on the diesels. Just that after it's under the tin, the diesel's tube goes down into the oil bath, while on the gassers, it runs back to the paper filter.

Don't ever talk in absolutes when it comes to Ford tractors.

My '73 4000 has a gasoline engine and an oil bath air filter and as far as I can tell it was that way when it left the factory. It might have been because it was a fleet purchase of state highway mowers so they could dictate what they wanted. It's an ag chassis 4000 and the whole thing was painted yellow at the factory and it has dark blue stripes on the sides of the hood where the model number decals would have normally been. All of the date codes on the major components match the foil sticker under the hood so nothing's been replaced. The hole in the plate above the radiator is on the right side where a diesel air tube would normally go through from the oil bath filter, and then the tube crosses over to the left side and goes back to where the paper filter would normally be on a gasser and crosses back over to the right side to enter the carb from the rear.

This photo of one I am thinking about that shows what I am talking about. Haven't went to look at it yet He is asking 4000.00 and says it's as good mechanically as it looks. Tach shows 3546 hours. The box blade comes with it but I already have one and don't need it.

Good looking tractor.
As said below, the air intake on the top of the radiator shroud is in the same place whether gas or diesel. That one looks normal to me.
You would enjoy using that clean, quiet gasser after running a stinky, noisy diesel.
They are much more pleasant to be around.

Even more so with that horizontal exhaust. My gasser has the vertical exhaust, and even though it's not as nasty as diesel exhaust, it can still be unpleasant when the exhaust is in your face.
