Picked up a Ford 4630!

Just grabbed a 4630 2wd, 7209 front loader, 201 cyl diesel, 91 model for $2500!. Hasn't run in a few years but I know the previous owner and know the history. It sprung a water pump leak while owner was running it he had a mutual friend working on it who put on an new water pump, radiator, and alternator. Before he got it running the mutual friend unfortunately passed away suddenly. Anyway I bought it as-is. I drained the fuel tank, changed fuel filter, cleaned sediment bowl and changed engine oil/filter. I turned it over but need to get a new battery so I can bleed the injectors and get it running. She's got great tires and very low hours. Can't tell by the hour meter because it has obciously been changed and the new unit still reads "0" hours. Can't wait to fire it up and put it to work. This Ford will replace my Kubota M5400. The Kubota has been a good tractor for me but it's just not a real tractor like these old Fords.

At that price if my wallet had got stuck in my pants he would have got them too.

If you where close to me I'd give you double your money and take it off you hands, that way you wouldn't have to get dirty working on it.

Are you looking to sell your Kubota? If so, where are you located? I know someone who is always looking for Kubota tractors near me.

I realize deals like this are rare. This is an old family friend who just had no interest in getting it running. He also has a newer, smaller tractor that does all he needs anymore. That being said, when he told me the price I honestly replied as quick as I could, "the tractor is worth more than that" to which he quickly told me "it is if it were running". And yes, I was very, very proud to pay him for it and now have it in my shop. I drained the fuel, new filter, cleaned sediment bowl, new oil/filter in engine, etc. Got a good hot battery and turned it over. I noticed a "spark" at the starter stud where the pos battery wire lands. I took it loose, cleaned the terminal (wasn't dirty though) and put it back on - same thing next try. In the area of that stud it gets really warm after cranking only a short while. Wonder what I've got? Starter turns motor over good and strong but something isn't right with this spark and heat at the starter - any suggestions?

I'm in east texas about 2 hours east to Dallas. I'm thinking a long way from you? It's a good tractor. M5400 with a Bush Hog loader, less than 800 hours. I am the second owner. It's never done anything but pull a 6' bush hog model 306 mower and a 6' box blade.

I'm in Pennsylvania, so you are too far away for my friend to be interested. He buys 3 or 4 used Kubotas every year and works on them and uses them and sells a few every year as well. I don't think he makes much profit, but it funds his hobby.

I understand. Lots of Kubota around here. I'm not a big fan even though I own one. They are very light for any given rated hp but it's been a good tractor. It's never failed to crank and do the job I asked it to do. I just like older, heavy "real" tractors like the Fords. I landed this 4630 and I have a 2600. I wouldn't take for either of them.

I ran my four cyl diesel out of fuel while raking hay some years ago. Priming these is tough so I went and got another tractor. When I got back to it, I brought booster cables and boosted from my truck. During the process I noted that the connection at the starter was hot. I checked it and it was clean. Now here is something that comes up regularly here on YT. The cable terminal was CLEAN but still generating heat. Well, what is clean? This terminal was clean gray like a terminal should be, but on closer examination it was not shiny, it had a coating of I what I believe was oxide on it. I scraped it clean and shiney, went back to cranking. The heat was gone, and it cranked faster.
